What I've been up to!

Its that time again. Now that I have finished my last Scrap Squad quilt, its time to start planning the next one! We got our new pattern and it is another paper piecing pattern. Now that I have the add-a-quarter ruler, I don't mind paper piecing so much, I really do like the accuracy that it gives and the odd shapes that go together so perfectly! I am starting to pull colors from my stash (see photo above) and I really like what I see so far! I'm excited to get going on this one.

I have been working on quite a few customer quilts as well. These first two quilts are the same pattern, pieced by sisters at a quilting retreat. Its so fun to see the same pattern presented in different fabrics to see how easily a quilt can look so different. It is the same with my Scrap Squad gals with Quiltmaker Magazine. (By the way, the newest scrap squad post is up, go check out Carol's version! http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/)
Here is Betsey's quilt:
and here is Pam's quilt:
They both chose different quilting patterns. Betsey got Plumage on hers
and Pam got Wave on Wave. She asked me to use a teal colored thread to create a watery effect. The thread choice and quilting pattern really worked well together to give that effect.
These next two quilts were made by Brenda. She used minky on the back of both of her quilts, which really helps to show off the quilting well!
Her first quilt is a sweet Valentine's quilt that she told me she made with her niece.
Aren't Twister quilts fun? I used a light pink thread with an all-over heart design called "Whole Lotta Love"
And here is the quilting on the minky!

Her other quilt was a Holiday quilt. I decided to put my pattern "Tickle" on it and I really liked the results!

Here it is on the back.
See what I mean? It really sticks out on this fabric.
I decided that my front door area needed a little something. My friend recently came to visit and she said that it looked like I had just moved in due to lack of decorations...I'm working on it! :)
I had a  bunch of quilts stacked up in a dresser and I decided to try this approach so that they were all easily visible and accessible for when someone needs a snuggle!
What do you think?
Happy quilting!!

The fourth of July was sure a fun week for me and my family. We got to go camping! A four day weekend away from it all was definitely what we needed! We went to the northern California coastline for some awesome fireworks, then to Oregon where we saw some awesome caves!
I did get some work done before and after vacation though! This quilt was made by Becky. I've gotten to quilt a few of her quilts before, and I have enjoyed every one of them.

I kept it simple with this quilt. I knot that she loves stippling in her quilt so I did a tight stipple in all of the background fabric, outlined the applique with a clear thread, and put a feather in the border.
This quilt is a stunner!
This next quilt was made by Lonnie. Her son is getting married soon and this is going to be their wedding present from her. I say lucky them!!
I used my quilting pattern appropriately titled "Whole Lotta Love" in a stone gray thread.

Sharon made this quilt. It is titled Mexican Star, I love the color combinations in this quilt!!
We wanted to keep the quilting simple in this quilt as well. There is a lot of stitching in the ditch on this quilt, and a simple stipple in the background areas.
I also put a piano key border on it to give the border some added interest.

Jeanne made this next quilt. It is an awesome Buggy Barn quilt that was made to be used as a sample for our local quilt shop.
Isn't it cute? A fun added feature...
Yup, the legs are 3-D! Way too cute, I tell ya! I used a stone gray thread and quilted loops all over this quilt, avoiding the cute little legs of course!
The star and moon were outlined to give them a bit of extra pop, but otherwise left alone.
I hope that you have had as much fun quilting this week as I have. There is one more thing to report, and that is that my third quilt for Quiltmaker Magazine's Scrap Squad is up on their blog! Please go check it out and let me know what you think! http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2013/07/qm-scrap-squad-nicoles-turning-points/
I got to make this!!

Happy Quilting!

What I've been up to!

Isn't this just an awesome modern style quilt? This was made by my buddy Pauline. She told me she wanted my river water pattern in black in the background fabric and it was up to me as far as what I should quilt into the circles.
This took a bit of thought on my part, but I am super happy with how it turned out.

Here is the backing fabric.

I figured I would give you all a peak of the variety of quilts that come through my door. I worked on each of these quilts this week.
This is the coolest Harley Davidson quilt that I've seen! This was made by Jeannette.

These t-shirts came from all over the country, plus one from Mexico and one from Canada! I quilted stars and loops all over this quilt.
This next quilt was also made by Jeannette.
This quilt also got an all over pattern. I chose Plumage for this one, I figured feathers for a feathered star.

This next quilt was pieced by Nancy.
This one was quilted with my Clematis pattern. I really liked how it showed up in the solid fabrics.

This next quilt was also made by Nancy. She did a great job on both of these quilts.
I got to use my Harvest Winds pattern on this one. It was a lot of fun.

Isn't my job the best? It's never the same from day to day!
Happy quilting everybody!

Christmas in...JUNE?

Hi there! It seems as though it has been forever since my last post. My computer has been on the fritz, it started working today so I am taking advantage of having the internet and giving you an update!
I've been busy busy busy, and I am loving every minute of it. I've noticed a trend starting...I've been working on a lot of Christmas quilts lately! I wanted to show you a few of them :D
This first one was pieced by quite a few ladies, it was a block exchange. Each of the blocks had to be Christmas themed, and include the red fabric with the words on it, which you will see in the close up shots of the blocks. This is Laurie's quilt.
I had a lot of fun quilting this one. My main pattern was the curli-cues with some snowflakes thrown in here and there...then I did something different in each of the blocks!

I had some fun putting some garland on this Christmas tree.

I know I'm not supposed to have favorite blocks, but I really enjoyed the way the quilting turned out on this block!

Another Christmas quilt that I got to work on is this one made by Joann.

I couldn't decide what to do with the border, then this idea just came to me. Joann loved it and I think that I do too. What do you think of it?

She did a wonderful job with her embroidery! These are 3 of my favorite blocks, but they were all beautiful! I went in a did a little something fun on each one of them.

And the sashing treatments got a little snowflake quilted into each of them.

This next quilt was made by Annette. She did a wonderful job with her embroidery as well!
Isn't it a beautiful wall hanging?
The little flowers on it were 3-d!
How fun is that? Great job on all of these lovely quilts ladies!
In other news, my daughter turned 5. Yup...5. I can't believe it. Happy birthday kiddo.

I did get to work on a Christmas quilt of my own. It was made as a sample for my local quilt shop. I had a lot of fun with this one. The fabrics are gorgeous! Great job Ms. Nancy Halvorsen.
I think that my favorite bit of quilting that I did on this quilt is on the snowmen. I quilted large "pebbles" onto them to make it look as though the snowmen were made out of snowballs!
The snowflakes were pretty fun to quilt as well.

Thank you for letting me share my quilting adventures with you. Happy quilting everyone.
