Something Different

My friend Annie decided she wanted something different on this quilt, or should I say 18 different somethings on this quilt. Since it is so easily separated she wanted a different design in each row.

 I started out with the most simple overall pattern in anyone's repertoire, the stipple...

Then small loopies...

Then a pattern that I call Double Bubble Trouble ...

Then some cute little leaves and loops...

Then my own version of "cry baby"

and I was just getting started!! Next up was my ever popular stars and loops pattern...

Then I had a little fun, I made a few wavy lines across, added some pebbles in-between and came up with this...

Swirls...

River water, again...my own way...

Then I had a little fun with some wavy lines in different directions in each square. The texture that this created is awesome!...

Then I added my own version of a funky feather...

Of course, I had to add some love!!

I put some fun squares in...

Then my own version of a fun fern...

 

We are getting towards the end I swear!!! Next I put in some geometric designs...

And then, finally, my new favorite....the itty bitty curli que...



 

What a fun way to do a quilt! I might have to make one of these for myself to hang in my longarm quilting room (I have two quilting rooms by the way, one for piecing and one for quilting!!)

Crown Royal

If you look back on all of my blog posts, you will see that this is not the first quilt that I have made out of Crown Royal bags, but it is such a unique project that I wanted to share again! Word gets around in a small town when you make something as unique as this project was, so when Marsha was getting all of her bags gathered up and she was looking for someone to make the quilt for her, my name was mentioned. Marsha's husband had been saving all of his Crown Royal Whiskey bags for over 18 years for this purpose (no pressure huh?) He had saved a total of 110 large bags and 12 of the smaller bags.
This is my pretty longarm Lulu! She does such a great job. We were just getting started on this project here.

I quilted a tight stipple on the whole quilt. I used a flannel fabric for the borders and the backing and Warm & White for the batting.

I avoided sewing over the seams or the logo, which made the job a little more fun than just an all-over stipple. I am proud to say that I only cornered myself once, meaning I had to tie off because there was nowhere else for me to go.
I think that the gold border really makes this quilt pop!

Here it is! I kept the seams in the quilt blocks so that I could create a weaving effect :D

The next fun quilt that I got to make was a modern quilt to be used as a sample at my local quilt shop, "The Blue Iris"
Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Me & My Sister Designs fabrics. Well their new line Ticklish just came out and my store got it in! I knew they were going to make a sample out of it, and they know how much I love the fabrics so they chose me to make it. The top took only 3 hours to cut out and piece together...the quilting took about 8 hours. That is saying a lot because this quilt is really small!

Of course, I forgot to take a picture of it once the awesome green striped binding was on it, but this will do! I did some pebbling in the white areas and a fern-like pattern for the blocks.

And in the gray area I used a technique by Angela Walters to create tiles. It was a lot of fun to do and I know I will do it again!

I had a lot of fun making this quilt, and now I am off to work on another project that I am excited to tell you about...I just have to finish it first!

I have had a blast so far and I was told that I am allowed to show you a snippet of the quilt. You'll have to wait until early March to see the full quilt.
If you know my quilting style at all, then you know I love to use bright colors...and this quilt was no exception. I chose to use batiks.

That's a nice preview photo, don't you think? Whenever I piece quilts, I generally have my laptop in there playing an episode of Friends. I love that show, and I have seen each of the episodes so many times that I don't have to sit there and watch it! I can just listen and know exactly what is going on. It still makes me laugh while I am concentrating on my piecing. Of course, there are always snacks of some sort in the room as well. This time it was Hershey's Hugs and Reese's. Yum! Maybe I should try carrots and broccoli sometime. HA!
